John Wendell Coombs, 83, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Mary Lou Murray Coombs entered into eternal rest Monday, April 16, 2018. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2018 in St. John's Lutheran Church, 5 Clifford Street at 2:00 p.m. Interment, Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

John was born October 16, 1934 in Washington, DC, son of the late Wendell J. Coombs and Norma Drük Coombs. He attended The Citadel, Class of 1957. John was a retired Executive Vice President with Bank of America. He was a member of The Citadel Brigadier Club and St. John's Lutheran Church. John's favorite place was up on their porch watching the weather and the ships go by.

John is survived by his wife of 43 years; seven daughters: Constance Coombs Webb of Reno, NV, Cathie Coombs Moroski (Mike) of Caldwell, ID, Cindy Coombs Foster (Rhett) of Petaluma, CA, Sandy Coombs Taylor (Dan) of Wellington, New Zealand, Shari Coombs Lipe (Jeff) of Lafayette, CO, Mary Lou "Missy" Day (Steve) of Bellvue, WA, and Cynthia A. McDonough (Chris) of Mount Pleasant, SC; 12 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
