John Evans Byrd

Entered into eternal rest on the morning of June 8, 2010, John Evans Byrd, Jr., husband of Terry Jo Couling Byrd. Residence, Charleston, South Carolina. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. John Byrd are invited to attend his memorial service at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Friday, June 11, 2010, at eleven o'clock. There will be a gathering of family and friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL Thursday from five until seven o'clock. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association of SC, 44-A Markfield Drive, Charleston, SC 29407 and/or American Cancer Society , 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, SC 29406. Mr. Byrd was born on June 12, 1940, in Columbia, South Carolina, son of the late John Evans Byrd, Sr. and Alma Clemme Smith Byrd. He was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Mr. Byrd was a retired General Foreman with the Charleston Naval Shipyard and later retired from Lowe's. He attended the University of South Carolina, was a Mason with Mariner Lodge No. 2 and was a Past Master with La Candeur Lodge #36, and member of York Rite and Scottish Rite. Surviving are his wife of Charleston; daughter, Martha J. Pitts and husband Michael of Kettering, OH; son, John Evans Byrd, III and wife Jennifer of Charleston; sister, Martha Keef and husband Charles of Nashville, TN; and five grandchildren. Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Welch Byrd.
