John Albert Branks, 78, of Folly Beach, South Carolina, husband of Eleanor Hord Branks entered into eternal rest Tuesday, November 29, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 2, 2016 in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 405 King Street at 10:00 a.m. Interment, Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street.
Johnny was born October 9, 1938 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Charles W. Branks and the late Caroline Kuck Branks. He was a graduate of High School of Charleston and honorably served in the SC National Guard. He was a retired maintenance supervisor for SCE&G. Johnny was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, the Deutscher Bruderliche Bund, the Charleston Rifle Club, and the James Island Yacht Club.
In addition to his wife, Eleanor of Folly Beach, he is survived by two sons: John "Johnny" A. Branks, Jr. (Maggie) of James Island, SC and Charles T. Branks of Johns Island, SC; two sisters: Gretta B. Masche (Louis) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Lila B. Adams (Bob) of Charleston, SC; and five grandchildren: John A. Branks, III, Austin F. Branks, Jennifer Stufflebeam (Jason), Robert Baxter, and Thomas Baxter (Jennifer).
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Vivian B. Mappus and Helen B. Smoak; and brother, Charles W. Branks, Jr.
