John Hall Barnhill

John Hall Barnhill, went to be with the Lord on September 12, 2024, at the age of 83.

“Bubba” as he was known by close family and friends, grew up in Conway, SC. As a young man, he went into the Marine Corps and met his beautiful bride, Caroline shortly after.

After he got out of the service and got married, he and Caroline moved to Columbia, SC. He graduated from the University of South Carolina and they later moved to Mt. Pleasant, SC where he worked as an accountant for most of his life.

He was a dog lover to his core. He connected with the unconditional loving and faithful spirit that dogs inherently possess and they brought him tremendous joy.

He was a true family man. From the start, he had such reverence for his father, Eugene, and the most tender love for his mother, Elizabeth. He looked up to his brother, Bill, in a way words can’t explain, and he cared deeply for his sister, Eugenia.

He was a best friend and loving husband to Caroline. They each modeled loyalty, sacrifice, companionship, partnership, and most of all, an enduring love throughout their 57-year marriage.

He was an encouraging and supportive father to his only daughter, Becky. He was always a comforting, positive, and reassuring presence throughout her life. To her, he hung the moon.

He later welcomed her husband, Ron, into the family with open arms. He was tremendously proud of Ron and enjoyed keeping up with his Air Force career.

He always enjoyed celebrating the goings on of his wider family…his cousins, his nephews, his niece, their families, etc. He truly enjoyed rejoicing in the happy times of his extended family.

In retirement, he became an avid family historian. He worked relentlessly to research centuries of family information, document it, and share his findings with his whole family. This 2-decade long passion project culminated in a comprehensive chronicle of his family history and was published as a book in 2020.

He lived a blessed, fulfilling life, and well-lived life full of love. He loved Jesus and we are comforted knowing that he is at peace in the loving arms of his Lord and Savior.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 19, 2024, at J. Henry Stuhr Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends at a reception directly following the service. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, 1000 SC-544, Conway, SC 29526 at 3:30 pm.
