John Lynn Ballard, 79, of Hollywood, South Carolina, husband of Marilyn Cockerham Ballard, entered into eternal rest Saturday, May 31, 2014. His funeral service will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014 in Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Highway at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL Friday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

John was born March 10, 1935 in Rock Hill, South Carolina, son of the late Ernest Jackson Ballard and Elizabeth Locke Ballard. John was a graduate of Berry College where he received his Bachelor's degree. He also received his Master's Degree from The Citadel. He was a retired administrator with Summerville School District-Dorchester County II and former teacher at St. Paul's High School. He was an active member and deacon of Ashley River Baptist Church and an army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Ballard of Hollywood, SC; two daughters, Deborah Lynne O'Dell (Chuck) of Bryan, TX, Diana Deakin Mercado (Ian) of Ravenel, SC; brother, William Ballard (Sybil) of Tallahassee, FL; two grandsons, Justin Ross Mercado, Ryan Michael Mercado; numerous nieces and nephews.
