John Slaton Allison

September 19, 1921 — September 5, 2013

Colonel John Slaton Allison, U. S. Air Force (Ret.), 91, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Anne Johnson Allison entered into eternal rest Thursday, September 5, 2013. His funeral service will be held at the graveside in Magnolia Cemetery, 70 Cunnington Street, Monday, September 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.

Colonel Allison was born September 19, 1921 in Albany, Georgia, son of Arthur Webb Allison and Moneta Slaton Allison. He was a member of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church and graduated from The Citadel. He retired as a Colonel with the United States Air Force. He served in WWII, the Korean and Vietnam wars.

He volunteered to join the Air Force in 1942 while in his junior year at The Citadel and graduated after the war. His service as a WWII bomber pilot turned into a 27 year Air Force career. He retired in 1969 having been awarded several Distinguished Flying Crosses. He continued as a pilot in Charleston on a professional contract basis for a number of years after his Air Force retirement.

In addition to Colonel Allison's passion for flying, he was an avid golfer and a tireless supporter of his beloved alma mater, serving many years as the class agent for The Citadel's class of 1943.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Anne Johnson Allison; daughter, Julanne S. Allison of Rogers, Arkansas; three devoted step sons, Gerard S. Stelling (Grace), James M. Stelling (Kathy) and Robert M. Stelling (Sallie) all of Charleston; two grandchildren; seven step grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Angelia Johnson, his caregiver for the last three years, for her tireless devotion to the family.
