John Quincy Adams

October 1, 1921 — November 9, 2010

John Quincy Adams, Jr., widower of Mary Prentiss Adams, who he married December 25, 1942, entered into eternal rest on the morning of November 9, 2010.   The relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service in Ashley River Baptist Church, Friday, November 12, 2010 at 2 pm.  Interment, Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens.  Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Thursday between 4-6pm.


A life-long Charlestonian, J.Q. was born October 1, 1921, the son of John Quincy Adams and Mary Belle Hearn Adams.  He was a graduate of the High School of Charleston and a member of Ashley River Baptist Church, former member and Deacon of Rutledge Avenue Baptist Church.  J. Q. was a US Navy Veteran who served in WWII and retired from Westvaco as a Traffic Manager in 1985 after 39 years of service. He was a former member of St. Andrew's District 10 Constituent School Board and Charleston County School Board.  He was also a member of the Traffic Club of Charleston and the Southeast Shippers Advisory Board.


He is survived by his daughter: Virginia A. Young Lake Wylie, SC; his son: John Q. Adams, III and his wife Eunice of Seneca, SC; four grandchildren: John Q. Adams, IV (Tresa), Jennifer R. Hausman (Jason), Susan A. Forbes (Sean) and Lee Richbourg (Abi); four great grandchildren: Connor, Austin, Eli and Georgia; one brother, Robert Lamar Adams of Harrisburg, NC.  He was predeceased by two sisters, Ada Elizabeth Adams and Lucille Adams Basha.


The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the caregivers at Ashley River Plantation, especially Luretha Holmes, who gave un-selfishly of her time and love.


In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC 29407.
