Joel E. Barrera

Joel E. Barrera, 81, of Mount Pleasant, SC, husband of the late Elnora Catherine Barrera, died Friday, March 27, 2015. His memorial service will be held Thursday, April 2, 2015 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, at 10:00 am. Family will receive friends following the service.

Joel was born June 28, 1933 in El Sauz, Texas, son of the late Piedad Barrera and the late Santos Elizondo Barrera. He was a retired Expediter with the Polaris Missile Facility in Charleston. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.

He is survived by a son, Michael Roy (Claudia) Nelson of Summerville; four daughters, Anna (John) Bowling of North Charleston, Ellena Vanessa (Charlie) Boyd Davis of Hanahan, Nettie Elnora Avery of Hanahan and Nicki Barrera (Keith) Brandt of Solana Beach, CA; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, William Joseph Nelson, Jr. and a daughter, Eva Cecelia Jones.
