CPO Joe Harold Holtby, USN Ret., of Ladson, SC, husband of Paula Susan Holtby entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 29, 2013. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 5, 2013, in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road at 1:00 pm with a Masonic Service at the conclusion of the service. Interment with military honors will follow in the Summerville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel Thursday, April 4, 2013.
Mr. Holtby was born August 17, 1946 in Wichita, KS, son of Donald Holtby and Joyce Bradford Holtby. Joe enlisted in the US Navy in 1965, served in Vietnam and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. After 20 years in the Navy, he was employed by SPAWARS having worked in Civil Service for 27 years. He was a member of the Dorchester Lodge No. 369 A.F.M, OES, Omar Shrine Temple and Scottish Rite. He was a recipient of the Wood Badge Honor from The Boy Scouts of America and also served as a Weebolo Leader. He was a member of the Metro North Presbyterian Church in Goose Creek, SC.
He is survived by his wife of 30 1/2 years, Paula Susan Holtby; mother, Joyce Fail of Lyons, KS; half-brother, Jimmy Holtby of Atchisen, KS; half-sisters, Janice Clayton Lyons, KS and Joanna Cassidy of Wichita, KS; three daughters and one step-son. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Holtby.
