Joe Pat Brittain

Joe Pat Brittain, 75, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and Sarasota, Florida, husband of Anita Stewart Brittain entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 6, 2017. His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 am. Entombment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday in the Mount Pleasant Chapel from 9:30 am until time of the service.

Born April 24, 1942 in Almo, Kentucky, Joe was the son of the late Otis Brittain and Sybil Brittain. He was best known to his grandchildren as "Poppop." He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and a lifetime member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Employed for several years by BP Amoco in the Chicagoland area, while living in Naperville, IL, Joe eventually started Brittain Consulting and enjoyed working as a rotating equipment specialist, troubleshooting in different refineries throughout the Midwest and Southeast. He was a member of the Church at LifePark. He also was a member of the Stoneybrook Golf Club in Sarasota, FL.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years; two daughters, Cynthia Brittain Bohr (John) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Kimberly Brittain Rumrey (John) of Aurora, IL; son, Dr. Eric S. Brittain (Sarah) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; seven grandchildren, Jarrod Bohr, Ryan Bohr, Katherine Rumrey, Elizabeth Rumrey, Nicholas Rumrey, Owen Brittain and Lauren Brittain; sister, Wanda Ferguson of Paducah, KY; brother, Gary Brittain (Jill) of Woodbury, MN; sisters-in-law, Wanda Moore (Doug) of Paducah, KY, and Deborah Moore (Jeff) of Kennesaw, GA; brother-in-law, Ken Stewart (Amber) of Houston, TX; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother-in-law, Lynn Ferguson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the LifePark Building Fund, 1151 George Browder Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466.

A Celebration of Life reception will be held in Paducah, KY, in the spring, with details to follow.
