JoAnne McKeever Hicks

JoAnne McKeever Hicks, age 77, died of complications resulting from her two-year struggle with lung cancer on Saturday, October 18, 2014 in Charleston, SC. Her Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, October 22 at 11:00 a.m. at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

JoAnne was born on June 18, 1937 in New Kensington, PA to parents DL and Marie McKeever. She graduated from New Kensington High School in 1955, attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA and graduated from Simmons College in Boston, MA in 1959. Mrs. Hicks was employed in the trust departments of Northern Trust Bank in Chicago, IL and PNC Bank in Pittsburgh, PA, retiring in 1997.

In Charleston, JoAnne was very active in the AARP Tax Aide free income tax preparation service where she served for many years as District Coordinator, retiring from that position last April. For many years she was active in the First Scots Church Meals On Wheels program. Mrs. Hicks was a member of the Charleston Symphony Conductors Club, Charleston Stage and Charleston County Friends of the Library.

JoAnne is survived by her husband of 54 years, Nelson C. Hicks, and they have lived in Charleston for 16 years since their retirement in 1997 from Pittsburgh, PA. She is also survived by her sister, Margie Kornfeld, who resides in New York City, daughter Ginny Epsten living in Kansas City, MO and son Lewis Hicks of Chicago, IL, and four grandchildren, Sam, Maddie, Sarah and Augie.
