Joann D. Fowler

JoAnn Dukes Fowler, 76, died December 24th 2010 with her family by her side at Hospice of Charleston in Mt Pleasant, SC.  JoAnn was born March 7th, 1934 in Charleston SC to Sarah Massenburg and Daniel William Dukes.  She is survived by her loving husband of fifty seven years C. Thomas Fowler; son, Charles T. Fowler Jr.; daughter, Leslie Fowler Hennigar; son-in-law, Rick L. Hennigar; grandson, Gordon Ross Hennigar. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister and best friend, Leslie Dukes Jamison, of Greenville, SC. JoAnn attended Academia del Perpetuo Socorro (Academy of Our Lady of Perpetual Help) in San Juan, Puerto Rico and is a graduate of St. Andrews High School.  She also attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia. JoAnn has been active in the GOP since 1962 serving as President of the Republican Woman's Club in 1967. In the seventies, she was an avid sailor who spent many weekends at The James Island Yacht Club aboard her friend's Thistle sailboat "Sigh" competing in local regattas.  JoAnn worked for Max Hill Real Estate Co. and later partnered The Ross Co., a local real estate firm.   From the mid- eighties to late nineties, Tom and JoAnn resided in Birmingham, Alabama. JoAnn has passed in body, but will always be loved and remembered by all of those who have crossed paths with our friend, mother, sister, and wife.  She possessed a true Southern Woman's heart and was always willing to lend an ear, advice, or hand up.  Friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of JoAnn's life at Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1149 Russell Drive, Mt. Pleasant, SC on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. A private inurnment will be at Christ St. Paul's Parish Cemetery in Hollywood, SC at a later date.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Charleston Foundation, 676 Wando Park Blvd., Mt Pleasant, SC 29464
