JoAnn Williams Dodd

JoAnn Williams Dodd, 82, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of the late James Spencer Dodd, entered into eternal rest Saturday, December 20, 2025. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 28, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel. Her Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 29, 2025, in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 12:00 pm. A small reception will be held immediately following the service at the family home.

JoAnn was born April 23, 1943, in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Robert E. Perkins and Lurlene Varner Perkins.

She grew up in Asheville, NC where she attended Asheville Biltmore College, started a family and was an active part of the local Jaycees. She moved back to Charleston in 1975 and was an integral part of starting and building Williams Tire Distributors which is still in operation today. She held other positions around the Lowcountry before she retired from Caterpillar Inc in 2012. But perhaps the position that fit her personality the best was the time she spent at Island Enterprises on Kiawah coordinating large group events and taking full advantage of her meticulous organizing and planning skills.

In addition to being a top tier party planner (a talent graciously passed onto her children), in her spare time she was an avid reader, quilter, and grower of plants. Sadly, she never achieved her lifelong dream of growing an avocado in her windowsill from just the pit, but her legacy will live on.

She is survived by her son, John "Skip" Williams, Jr. (Kelly); daughter, Laura Myers (Bill); beloved granddaughters Brooke Williams and Megan Williams, and nephews Dr. Rob Groves (Caroline), and Kenneth Groves (Laura), niece Dr. Rebecca Groves Laliberte (Doug), and many cousins.

Memorial donation can be made in JoAnn’s memory to the National Kidney Foundation.
