Joan Molden Riley, 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 3, 2018. Joan was born on March 11, 1932 in Annapolis, Maryland, daughter of the late Guenther Paul Molden and Rose Lamb Molden. She graduated from Annapolis High School, Class of 1950, and went on to attend Mrs. Fleet's Secretarial School. In 1956 she married her husband, Thomas Alva Riley, making their home in Annapolis, Maryland.
Joan was employed at the USNEES North Severn, where she worked as a bookkeeper for eight years. Later, with a group of parents desiring to provide their children with a Biblically based, academically excellent education, she helped to establish Annapolis Area Christian School. She served there as the administrative assistant for over 10 years.
Joan was a longtime active member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Annapolis, where she worshipped regularly and served faithfully. Upon moving to Mount Pleasant, SC, she worshipped at East Cooper Baptist Church, where she enjoyed the Senior Ladies Bible Class and the Prime Timers ministry.
Joan was a gracious, kind and generous woman, known for her hospitality. She often opened her home, and set the table for family and friends, including many midshipmen from the Naval Academy. She enjoyed traveling, especially with her children and grandchildren. She delighted in the beauty of the mountains in the fall, and the coast in the summer.
Joan is survived by her husband of 62 years; her daughters, Tamara Riley Graham (John) of Mount Pleasant, SC and Melanie Riley Breckenridge (Rick) of North Stonington, CT; her son, Brian Ashley Riley (Fiance Mary) of Grasonville, MD; grandchildren, Caroline Graham, Ryan Breckenridge, Anna Breckenridge, Emily Kugler, Erick Breckenridge and Jake Riley; two great granddaughters; sisters, Celia Witherell of Taunton,MA and Louise Davies (Dick) of Fairfax, VA.; and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held at East Cooper Baptist Church, Mount Pleasant, SC, on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until the hour of service. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Burial will be at the Cedar Bluff Cemetery in Annapolis, Maryland on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Arrangements by John M. Taylor Funeral Home, Annapolis, Maryland.
