Joan Legare Oldland, 81, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of William Oldland passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2014. A Celebration of Joan's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 23, 2014 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel on Thursday, January 23, 2014, from 1:00 pm until the time of the service.
Joan was born September 19, 1932, in McClellanville, South Carolina, daughter of the late Daniel "Captain Dan" Legare and Helen White Legare. She was a faithful member of the Church of the Holy Cross, and retired from the Charleston County School District having served as the Secretary at Moultrie Middle School for over 20 years. In her free time, Joan enjoyed gardening and was known for her "green thumb." She also loved to read, needlepoint, and to cook. Most of all, Joan loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, William Oldland; her children: Jeannette Stender and her husband, Bruce of Bat Cave, NC, Alice Marshall and her husband, Timothy of Chesapeake, VA, and The Rev. William Oldland and his wife, Ellen of Cheraw, SC; her six grandchildren and one great-grandson; her sister, Joyce Hodge and her husband, Hiram of Goose Creek, SC; and a host of nieces and nephews.
