Joan Snowden Kennerty

Joan Snowden Kennerty, 91, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of William Charles Kennerty, Jr. entered into eternal rest Thursday, January 10, 2019. Her funeral service will be held Friday, January 25, 2019 in Old St. Andrew's Parish Church, 2604 Ashley River Road at 11:00 a.m. A reception celebrating her life will be held after the service in Gilchrist Hall. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5-7 p.m.

Joan was born February 1, 1927 in Indiantown, SC, daughter of the late Clarence Paisley Snowden, Sr. and Delillion Bartell Snowden. She graduated from Columbia College, with a degree in Home Economics, and retired after 25 years of teaching with Charleston County School District. She was a real estate agent and a partner in Kennerty Development. Joan was a member of Old St. Andrew's Parish Church where she served on the Vestry, Altar Guild, and ran the annual Tea Room and Gift Shop for over 50 years. Joan was unselfish with her energy and resources. She dedicated her life to taking care of her family and serving her church. She loved sewing, cooking, flower and vegetable gardening, and entertaining. Joan shared her talents with those who knew her.

Joan was married to William on June 6, 1956, and they lived in their beautiful home on the Ashley River all their married life. She was a member of Columbia College Alumni Association and embraced William's love of Clemson University.

She is survived by her two children: Joseph S. Tyson (Sally) of Savannah, GA and Joan K. Doran (Jeff) of Charleston, SC; two grandchildren: Joseph S. Tyson, Jr. of Savannah, GA and William A. Ray of Charleston, SC; one great grandson, Kelton M. Tyson of AL; and brother, Charles Hampton Snowden, Sr. (Dorothy Lee) of Indiantown, SC.
