Joan Alward Ball, 82, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of Edward Robbins Ball died Sunday, March 2, 2014. Her funeral service will be held March 7, 2014 in the Church of the Holy Cross (Traditional church), Sullivans Island at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Joan was born October 4, 1931 in Tampa, Florida, daughter of the late Ernest E. Alward and the late Phoebe Chapman Alward. She was a master gardener, and a member of the Church of the Holy Cross. Joan was a lover and staunch defender of Historic Charleston and served as a registered tour guide for many years. She also attended Catawba College.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years; daughter, Arden Ball Meyer (Eric) of Tampa, FL; and son, Thomas M. Ball of Columbia, SC; nine grandchildren: Laura, Molly, Edward, Moultrie, Barbara Jennings, Ross, Emily, and Tian and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Edward Robbins Ball Jr.
