Lorine (Jessie) Godfrey, 82, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Clyde Benjamin Godfrey, Sr., entered into eternal rest Saturday, November 1, 2014. Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2014 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 2:00 pm. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel.
Lorine was born December 28, 1931 in Port Royal, South Carolina, daughter of the late Jessie Julian Wilson and Mary Ann Sauls Wilson. She was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church and was a Past Worthy Matron of Loyalty #136 Order of the Eastern Star 1973-1974, and served on Governor Riley's Advisory Board for Early Childhood Education. Lorine taught kindergarten at James Island Baptist Church, started and was Director of Kindergarten at Northbridge Baptist Church, and was the owner of Godfrey's Child Development Center. She was a member and served as Business Manager of SCACUS (South Carolina Association of Children Under Six) and received the first outstanding service award given by SCACUS.
She is survived by her husband, Clyde B. Godfrey, Sr. of Charleston; son, Benny Godfrey (Brenda) of Hollywood; daughter, Deborah Welch of Charleston; four granddaughters, Mary Ann Powers (Jerry) of Charleston, Angela Gagne of Goose Creek, Jennifer Mitchum (Dustin) of North Charleston, Crystal Muir (Louis) of Mt. Pleasant; four great-granddaughters, Hannah Powers, Katelyn Gagne, Caroline Mitchum, Sophie Powers; and two sister-in-laws, Ruth Wilson of Charleston and Clarice Wilson of Moncks Corner.
