Jerry M. Vanderhoef, 81, of Daniel Island, SC, and former resident of Tuscumbia, AL died Sunday, February 17, 2019. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2019 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 6:00 pm followed by visitation until 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 in Tuscumbia First United Methodist Church, 104 East 3rd Street, Tuscumbia, Alabama at 2:00 PM.
Born April 5, 1937 in Hornell, New York, he was the son of the late Hobart Vanderhoef and the late Marguerite Marlatt Vanderhoef. He was an Army veteran and earned both his undergraduate degree and Juris Doctorate from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia; Jerry was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He served as a circuit court judge in Alabama for 15 years and later as a federal administrative law judge for 25 years. He was a member of Tuscumbia United Methodist Church in Tuscumbia, Alabama. After he moved to Daniel Island to be closer to family, he became an avid player in the Greater Charleston Duplicate Bridge Club.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Sonny O (Erin) of Daniel Island, SC; daughter, Kay Im (Sonny) of Clearwater, FL and son Chip O (Yu-Jung) of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren, Jonathan Im, Katie Im, Carolyn Im, Hannah O and Lily O.
