Jerrie was a beloved figure in the Charleston community, known for her warmth, generosity, and entrepreneurial spirit. She owned and operated Brittain's of Charleston, a renowned full-service bridal registry located on King Street, alongside her husband and high school sweetheart, John L. Brittain. Together, they built a successful 30-year business that became the quintessential destination for new brides, offering exquisite china and tableware to start their married lives in style.
After her husbands passing in 1990, Jerrie found love again when she met Charles Parnelle, a well-known local artist. They became lifelong companions until his death in 2021.
Jerrie was a graduate of the University of Alabama and remained a devoted fan throughout her life, proudly displaying the school flag outside her home, rain or shine. She enjoyed meeting new people and often engaged passersby from her street side garden patio where she loved to pass the time. A cold Dr Pepper in hand, she welcomed all who stopped by for a chat, making them feel like old friends.
Jerrie will be remembered for her infectious smile, unwavering kindness, and dedication to her church, Bethel United Methodist, where she faithfully participated in the Kendrick Rodgers Circle, Red Bird, and other outreach programs.
Jerrie leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will continue to inspire all who knew her. She is survived by her two daughters: Bonnie Brittain Geer (Gordon) of Charleston, SC and Gina Brittain Baker (Michael) of Hampton, VA; brother, James Boswell Head (Debbie) of Ozark, AL; and four grandchildren: Christopher Baker, Brittain Baker (Clair), Porter Geer, and Gordon Geer, Jr.
