Mrs. Lutrario was born on July 2, 1930 in La Union (Murcia) Spain and raised in Cartagena, Spain. She was the eldest daughter of Sebastian and Antonia Cazorla Heredia. She had a true love of her homeland.?Viva Espa"a!, but often made people laugh as she declared God bless America in her heavy Spanish accent. Known as Jero to her friends and Lita to her grandchildren, Mrs. Lutrario earned an accounting degree and worked in bookkeeping until she met and married her husband of 47 years, a career military man. She received her greatest satisfaction in her roles of wife, mother, abuelita and friend. She loved to cook, sew, dance, laugh, entertain and talk (and talk, and talk, and talk).
Her favorite place to be was in the middle of a group of family and friends, with a table full of food, sharing stories. Over the years she was a member of St. Joseph's Blessed Sacrament and Nativity Catholic Churches. She volunteered at Bishop England High School, Our Lady of Mercy Outreach, and she served in the Perpetual Adoration Ministry at Blessed Sacrament for over 25 years. She was also an active member of Circulo Hispanoamericano de Charleston and served as treasurer for that organization for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lutrario Smith, of Johns Island and Mary's husband Todd, whom she loved like a son; four grandchildren, Elena Victoria Smith, William Joseph Anthony Smith, Phillip Livio Smith, and Michael Andrew Sebastian Smith; her sisters, Maruja Heredia Algarate and Antonia Heredia Celdran, both of Cartagena, Spain; a sister -in-law, Joan Lutrario of Warwick, RI, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Jero was predeceased by her husband, the late CWO4 Albert Lutrario, USN (ret.), and her two beloved sons, Albert Anthony Joseph Lutrario and Alfred Sebastian Lutrario.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Nativity School Annual Fund, 1061 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29455 or Bishop England High School, Office of Development, 363 Seven Farms Dr., Charleston, SC 29492.
