Jennie Ruth Avinger Perkins, 96, of James Island, entered eternal rest on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Savannah Place. Her funeral service will be held at the graveside in Holy Cross Cemetery, James Island at 11:30 am, Wednesday, November 1, 2017. The family will receive visitors Tuesday, October 31, 2917 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
"Mrs. P" as she was known affectionately by friends and family had spent more than 50 years residing on James Island. She was born May 15, 1921, daughter of the late Harvey Furman Avinger and Annie Marcell Duncan Avinger of Elloree, SC and was the widow of Andrew C. Perkins, Sr. She was employed as Luncheon Manager for Stiles Point Elementary School and Harborview Elementary School for more than 19 years. "Mrs. P" was a known angler woman and outdoor sport enthusiast. She spent, again, 50+ years at Stumphole Landing on Lake Marion near Elloree.
She loved the activities of being with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; sons Andy (Connie) and Tom (Karen); daughters Libby and Marcell; grandchildren Tom, Christine, Ron, Dru (Kelly), Rebecca, and Eugene; great-grandchildren, Russ, Ryan, Avinger, Kailynn, Ethan, Aiden, Kalley and Tori.
