Jeffrey A. McCrabb (October 16, 1942 – March 24, 2024)

Jeffrey Allen McCrabb of Charleston, South Carolina formerly of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on March 24, 2024 at age 81. Jeff was born October 16, 1942 in Dayton, Ohio to Jayne and William McCrabb. He graduated from Trotwood High School and went on to study business at The Ohio State University. Upon graduation, he joined his father’s manufacturing business CM Products. When his dad retired, he purchased the business and grew it over three decades to employ 100 people and supply auto parts to major auto manufacturers.

Outside of work, Jeff loved sailing whether aboard Caribbean boat charters with family and friends or his own 39-foot O-Day The Impulse cruising through the Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence River and Hudson River to the Atlantic Coast. In 2001, he moved to Charleston, following his passion to be closer to the water.

On Nov. 5, 2023, Jeff celebrated 37 years of sobriety through the support of Alcoholics Anonymous. “One day at a time,” he faithfully “worked” the 12-step program and mentored dozens of others in recovery. Later in life, he served several years in law enforcement at the Charleston County Detention Center. Upon retiring, he bought another sailboat, The Obstinate, and lived aboard at the Charleston City Marina for two years.

He is survived by his partner Shirley Henley, children Teresa Woodard (Brian), Carey Albritton (James), Greg McCrabb (Susan) and Lindsay Taylor (Zak); nieces Jill, Melissa and Mollie; grandchildren Brittany (Michael), Rachel, Grant, Mark, McLean, Reid, Emma, Quinn, Clark and Henry; and Elizabeth McCrabb, former wife and mother of Lindsay. He is preceded in death by brother William and Janet McCune, former wife and mother of Teresa, Carey and Greg.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6 at 3 p.m. at the chapel at Woodland Cemetery, 118 Woodland Ave. in Dayton. Donations may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous of North Charleston, 1827 Reynolds Ave, North Charleston, SC 29405.
