Jean Muckenfuss Welch

Jean Muckenfuss Welch, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Monday, February 3, 2025. Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 7, 2025 in James Island Presbyterian Church, 1632 Fort Johnson Road at 11:00 am. The family will receive visitors in the sanctuary at 10:00 am. Interment to immediately follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

Jean was born September 7, 1935, in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of William Meyer and Roberta Glover Meyer. She graduated from Charleston High School and worked as a medical secretary for Dr. John H. Warren on Broad street until her retirement. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening but mostly cooking. Best known for her delicious biscuits and soup.

She is survived by her daughter; Lisa Muckenfuss Rourk (Mark) of Johns Island,SC, grandson; Christopher Rourk (Batey), granddaughter; Meredith Rourk Bright(Braden), both of Johns Island. Great granddaughter; McKinley Jean Bright, Great grandsons: George Rourk and Brooks Bright. She also leaves behind many special nieces, nephews and a very special brother in law John Easterby Sr.

Jean is predeceased by husbands Julian St. Clair Muckenfuss and Croskey Welch, sisters Jennie Grimball and twin sister Patricia Easterby, brothers Lewis Perry and Wendell Perry. 

Memorials may be made to James Island Presbyterian Church or Thornwell Orphanage.
