Jean Hills Townsend, 83, of Johns Island, SC, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Her graveside service and inurnment will be held Wednesday, August 11, 2021, in the Johns Island Presbyterian Churchyard, 2550 Bohicket Road at 11:00 am. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Jean was born August 13, 1937 in Charleston, SC, daughter of the late James Swinton Townsend, II and the late Eugenia Moore Hills. Jean was raised on Johns Island and Wadmalaw Island. She Graduated from Coker College, and began her career as a legal secretary on Broad Street. She later Worked as the Administrative Assistant for the President of the College of Charleston and as the Administrative Assistant for several Charleston County Administrators. In addition to her family and friends Jean loved her pets, and was a strong supporter of organizations for the prevention of cruelty to animals and for the welfare of all animals.
She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Ann Swinton Townsend. She is survived by her son, James Townsend Wells (Laval) of Charleston, SC; sister, Constance Townsend Brady (John); niece Eugenia (Nina) Townsend Brady; and nephew, John Michael Brady, Jr.
