Jean Sessoms, was born on July 22, 1935, to the late John Tillman Butts and Ruby West Butts, in Angier, North Carolina, departed this life on November 4, 2025, in Charleston, South Carolina.
Jean attended Campbell College in Buies Creek, N.C. Her professional business pursuits included mortgage loans and insurance sales. She was a sales manager and subsequently an owner of an insurance agency in Medford, New Jersey. Jean was one of the first females in New Jersey to become a Certified Insurance Counselors (CIC). The CIC designation included a rigorous two-year course of study which signifies a high level of expertise in the insurance industry. As a result of Jean’s academic and professional experiences, she was elected to a trustee position in the New Jersey Society of Professional Insurance counselors. She also served on the board of directors of the Medford, New Jersey Business Association. Jean was generally known as a tough, intelligent, fair, and accomplished woman.
Jean and her husband, Bob, were married for a loving 67 years. Their relationship was of the sort respected by all those who knew them. Bob and Jean could often be found playing bridge at the country club or on the golf course as both so enjoyed these avocations with friends and family. Their life was not only special but complementary in its application to life’s adventures. In short, theirs was a blessed life. Bob and Jean now continue their beautiful relationship in the afterlife as a result of their faith in God.
Jean is survived by her two beloved sons, Bobby Daniel Sessoms, Jr. (Alison) of Wilmington, North Carolina, and John Timothy Sessoms (Victoria Ann) of Charlotte, North Carolina. She treasured her role as a grandmother to five grandchildren: Bobby Daniel "Trey" Sessoms III (Sindy), Victoria DeLand Sessoms, John Timothy "J.T." Sessoms, William Neill "Will” Sessoms, and Sean Michael Sessoms; and her three great-grandchildren, Elisa Sofia Sessoms, Eliana Inez Sessoms, and Veronica Dahlia Pearl Sessoms. She also leaves behind her sister, Kay B. West.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation, which will be held on November 11, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, located at 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. Her funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM. Jean will be entombed with her late husband, Bobby Daniel Sessoms, Sr. following the service. at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens.
