Jean Sokol Rosner

May 3, 1930 — December 18, 2015

Jean Sokol Rosner, 85, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Herbert E. Rosner, died Friday, December 18, 2015. Her funeral service will be held at the graveside Sunday, December 20, 2015, in Brith Sholom Beth Israel Cemetery "Maryville", Sycamore Avenue, at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.

Jean was born May 3, 1930 in Charleston, SC, daughter of the late Morris Paul Sokol and the late Ida Lerner Sokol. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina and her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Michigan. Jean taught kindergarten for over 30 years in the Charleston County School System and taught elementary school in Detroit, MI, and it was here that she met the love of her life, Herb Rosner. She was involved in her synagogue and Jewish organizations. Jean was a past president of the Brith Sholom Beth Israel Synagogue sisterhood, a member of Hadassah and the Council of Jewish Women.

Jean was a lady and a "queen" whose larger than life personality knew no stranger. She was a southern belle and a stickler for manners and proper grammar. She loved to dance, shop 'til you drop, and collect "pretty things".

Thank you to all of Jean's caregivers through the years. A special thank you goes to Pat Miller, not only a loving caregiver who went above and beyond, but a true friend and family member.

She is survived by her husband of 54 strong years, Herbert; four children: Elissa Freedman (Louis) of Savannah, GA, Noah Rosner (Mickey) of Atlanta, GA, Dr. Daniel Rosner (Penny) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Adam "Simcha" Rosner of Charleston, SC; seven grandchildren: Matthew Freedman, Casey Rosner, John Rosner, Allie Rosner, Isaac Freedman, Eli Rosner, and Alec Rosner; brother, Joseph H. Sokol (Freida) of Charleston, SC; sister, Sonia S. Greenberg of Boynton Beach, FL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made to Addlestone Hebrew Academy, 1675 Wallenberg Blvd., Charleston, SC 29407 and/or Brith Sholom Beth Israel Synagogue, 182 Rutledge Avenue, Charleston, SC 29403.
