Jean Timmerman Hawkins

Jean Timmerman Hawkins, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, widow of The Honorable Falcon Black Hawkins, Jr. entered into eternal rest Wednesday, October 5, 2022. Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2022, in the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 302 Hibben Street at 11:00 am, followed by a reception. A private interment will be held in Christ Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, October 10, 2022, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.

Jean was born March 14, 1931, in Augusta, GA, the youngest of four children of the late George Robert Timmerman and the late Mary O'Delle Reardon Timmerman. She was a longtime member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church.

Jean graduated from both North Charleston High School where she was a majorette and Rice Business school. She became a records librarian for Roper Hospital. She was an active member of the Law Women's Auxiliary at USC School of Law. While a member of Hibben United Methodist, she taught Sunday school, was a longtime member of the Alter Guild, served as chairman of the Parsonage Committee and served as a communion steward for fifteen years. Jean, belonged to the Auxiliary of the Carolinas, and Daughters of the American Revolution.  She was a founding member of the Mount Pleasant Cotillion, and served on the boards of the Gibbes Art Gallery, the Preservation Society of Charleston, and the Charleston Christian Family Y. Jean loved to dance, play bridge, drink her coffee black, and enjoyed eating ice cream, fried chicken and drinking Coca Cola. She will be remembered for all she gave to her community, and the way she loved her family.

She is survived by three sons: Richard Keith Hawkins (Barbara) of Green Pond, SC, Daryl Gene Hawkins (Susanne) of Columbia, SC and Steely Odell Hawkins II (Allison) of Sautee Nacoochee, GA; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Hawkins Eddy (Dana) of Green Pond, SC; seven grandchildren: Morgan Asbury Eddy, Rebecca Timmerman Hawkins, Ashley Atkins Parham, Allison Elizabeth Hawkins, Mary Elizabeth Hawkins, Steely Odell Hawkins III, Tanner Falcon Hawkins, Hilton Harrel Knight, and John Ethan Knight; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

Pallbearers will be Andrew Leroy Hawkins, Morgan Asbury Eddy, Steely Odell Hawkins III, Leonard Darlington Way, Thomas Alexander Pendarvis, Richard Marian Pendarvis, Tyler Evan Parham, and Jeffry Hamilton Cooke.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 302 Hibben Street, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
