Jean Sandefur Hall, 85, a resident of Melbourne, FL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, in her home of 47 years. Jean was born in Macon, GA on Oct. 25, 1931, daughter of John William Sandefur and Ruth Baumgartner Sandefur. She grew up in Charleston, SC, and married there on Thanksgiving Day in 1951. She moved to Melbourne in 1958.
She is survived by her faithful husband of 65 years, Gerald Jerry Hall, 91; her daughter, Carole Tompkins; her granddaughter, Timalynn Matthews (W. Clay); great-grandchildren, Hall, Kamper, Helen, and Healey; and her beloved sisters, Anita Sandefur Singletary and Jo Moreno. Jean was predeceased by her younger brother, Charles William Sandefur, Sr.
At a very early age, Jean raised her baby sister, Anita, from birth. Her mothering heart nurtured many more. Jean taught English at Eau Gallie High for 25 years. She was equally passionate about theatre, directing an award-winning team of high school actors. She sang, recorded an album, and played both piano and guitar. She was a skilled seamstress, and enjoyed quilting, knitting, and embroidering beautiful gifts for family and friends. Above all, her legacy rests in her faithful devotion to Jesus Christ, and her steadfast love and service to her family.
Visitation will be held this Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., with a celebration of life to follow at Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home in Melbourne, FL.
