Jean Elizabeth Clute

Jean Elizabeth Clute, 78, of Mount Pleasant, SC passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012. The relatives and friends of Jean Clute are invited to attend her Memorial Service on Friday, February 24, 2012 in J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 2:00 pm. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at the Chapel immediately following the service.
Jean was born on December 5, 1933 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Robert Fraiser Clute and Margaret Lois Bold Clute. Jean was raised in Charleston and graduated from Bishop England High School and then Trenton State College.
She was a member of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy from 1963 till 1970. Jean was know as Sister Marie Claire and taught in Catholic Parochial Schools in South Carolina and New Jersey. She later worked as the Director of Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for Prudential Insurance Company headquarters in Newark, New Jersey.
She was an avid outdoors woman and loved sports of all kinds. As a child she was an equestrian and a member of Bishop England's basketball team. She enjoyed tennis, golf, kayaking, and watching her favorite sports on TV. Jean loved animals and for many years took excellent care of the birds and turtles that frequented her backyard looking for food and nesting places.
She had a giving heart and was involved in many charitable organizations volunteering her time to area schools and hospitals. She supported ECCO, Our Lady of Mercy Outreach Program and many other organizations. Founding member of Crawford House, a halfway house for alcoholic women in Princeton, New Jersey and Emmaus House a long-term treatment center for alcoholic nuns in Elberon, New Jersey. Jean was a former president of The New Jersey Task Force on Women and Alcohol.

She is survived by her closest friend, Jimmie Nell Stuckey of Mt. Pleasant, SC; her family members; Pamela Stucky of Kensington, MD, Deborah Stucky, PhD of Potomak, MD, and Lisa Stucky of Santa Fe, NM, grandchildren; Amanda Pollak, Gabriel Pollak, Kiera Mulhern, Will Mulhern, Hayley Mulhern, and cousins; Stephanie Kelly, Mary Bold Kennedy, Julie Coleman Harness, Jay Bold, Patsy Lembrakis.
