Jean Marie Essick Bryson, 84, of Charleston, SC, wife of Robert Otis Bryson, Jr., entered into eternal rest Sunday, December 28, 2014. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, January 3, 2015, in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, at 2:30 p.m.. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in Stuhr's Chapel Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Jean was born May 25, 1930 in Charleston, daughter of the late Harry Charles Essick and Julie Kraft Essick. She was a graduate of Riverland Terrace and Memminger schools, where she was a May queen; she attended Roper Hospital School of Nursing. Jean's working career began at Hay Oil before she joined the family business, Bryson's Garage, where she worked until the day she died.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert O. Bryson, Jr.; two sons, Robert O. Bryson, III., (Sandra) and Charles M. Bryson (Janice); three daughters: Debra B. Johnson (Kenny), Nancy B. Schwartz (Paul) and Dell B.Miner (Brian); six grandsons; a granddaughter; two great-granddaughters; and two great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred E. Towles.
Jean was very involved with James Island High School during the time that her five children attended. She was just as involved with the schools her grandchildren attended. Known as Mom, Big Momma, Jean, Jeannie, Mrs. Bryson, and Mrs. B., she touched and was loved by many. We will miss her dearly as she was and will always be the best Mom ever.
