Mr. J. Carroll Traynham, 100, of North Charleston, SC, passed away peacefully, at his home, Wednesday morning, March 25, 2026. His Funeral Service will be held Sunday, March 29, 2026 at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 1150 East Montague Avenue at 1:30 pm. Interment will follow at Old St. Andrew's Parish Churchyard 2604 Ashley River Rd. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Northwoods Chapel 2180 Greenridge Rd. 

Born at home, May 7, 1925, in Greenville County, SC, he was the oldest son of the late Jessie Carroll and Cindy Bruce Traynham. He graduated from Greenville High School and joined the U.S. Navy in 1943. He was in the South Pacific until the end of World War II in 1946. He was in all of the Philippine liberation invasions and received battle stars as a Philippine Liberator, which he was extremely proud of. He was also a Korean War veteran, and served for 3 years in Washington, DC, with the National Security Agency. He worked in electronics at the Charleston Navy Shipyard, as a Meteorologist, GS11, where he calibrated equipment on some of the country's first nuclear submarines. With a total of 36 years, he retired at age 55 to play golf, his true passion. He played several days a week at his beloved Yeamans Hall Country Club up into his early 90s. He was a member of Yeamans Hall From 1960 until his death. He served as President of Yeamans Hall Summer Golf for many years, and later became the Manager of Summer Golf, and retired from Yeamans Hall after 11 years. He loved his family and was able to compile a 200 page book of Traynham family genealogy, which covers 7 generations of the Traynham family. He traveled to Virginia where the Traynhams first came into this country from England, and spent many hours in Laurens County, SC where most of them lived after leaving Virginia. He had 200 books bound in 2010, and sold them at the Traynham Reunion, held each August in Greenville, to raise money to restore the original Traynham Cemetery in Laurens County, SC. He, Jamie and Wayne Traynham worked tirelessly on the cemetery for months. He served as President of the Traynham Reunion for 20 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, where he served as Senior Warden for many years. He was a life member Master Mason, 32nd degree Mason and also a Shriner. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 3144 since 1946, and the proudest Veteran I've ever known. He also was very proud to serve for 2 yrs. as the Foreman of the Charleston County Grand Jury in the late 1980s.

He is survived by his daughter, Jackie Fink of James Island, SC., brother Jack Traynham (Kay), of Greenville, SC. Nieces Rhonda, Vickie, Terri, Sherry and Nephew Tom.

He was preceded in death, due to a tragic accident in 1961, by his first wife, Ruth Fortner Traynham and his son Arthur. Also, his beloved wife of 59 years, Jamie Stowe Traynham, his adored sisters Frances Swanson, Betty McConnel, and Marcelle Cobb.
