Jasper Cermitt "J.C." Housand, 88, of Summerville, SC, husband of Mamie Stevens Housand, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012.
Born January 6, 1924 in Loris, SC; he was the son of Joseph Cleveland Housand and Ruth Cox Housand. He was a US Army WWII veteran having received decorations and citations for EAME Ribbon with three Bronze Stars and Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster. Mr. Housand was retired from Palmetto Shipping & Stevedoring Co., Inc. as a Gear Shop Superintendent and also retired from Central TruValue Hardware in Moncks Corner. He was a member of Crowfield Baptist Church and the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Housand is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mamie Housand of Summerville, SC; daughter, Linda Harper and her husband Jimmy of Ladson, SC; sons, David Housand and his wife Tina of Ladson, SC and Ken Housand and his wife Wanda of Summerville, SC; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Elwood Housand and his wife Joan of Moncks Corner, SC; sisters, Laphena Hardee and her husband John of Loris SC and Ruth Ann Cook and her husband Pete of Summerville, SC; and sister-in-law, Genevieve Housand of Conway, SC. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Herrin; two sisters, Pauline Hughes and Esta Mae Gause; two brothers, Leroy Housand and Robert Housand and one great-grandchild.
The funeral service will be held at Crowfield Baptist Church Friday, May 18, 2012 at 11:00 am. The burial with military honors will follow at Plantation Memorial Gardens, Moncks Corner, SC. The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road Thursday, May 17, 2012 between 6:00 and 8:00 pm.
