Jannice Moffett Beebe

Jannice Moffett Beebe of Charleston, South Carolina, died on Friday, November 25, after a short illness. Her funeral service will be held Monday, December 19, at St Michael's Church, 71 Broad Street, at 11:00 a.m. Burial Service will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements by J. She was born Cora Jannice Moffett in Laurel, MS on March 25, 1924, daughter of the late Linton Ellis Moffett and Estell Shedd Moffett. She attended local schools. With the outbreak of the Second World War, Jan went to Washington, DC, where she worked first for the FBI and later as an administrative assistant at Bolling Army Air Force Base, where she met the love of her life, Lucius Beebe IV, a dashing flier and war hero from Philadelphia PA. They were married in 1946 and, as a proud Air Force spouse, Jan partnered with and supported his career through his many postings, foreign and domestic.

After his retirement from the Air Force, Jan continued that partnership, editing and typing Lucius's Master's thesis and Doctoral dissertation on a manual typewriter.

Jan and Lucius moved to Charleston, SC in 1968, where she became active in civic affairs as a registered historic guide, board member of the Family Y, President of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in the State of South Carolina, Ladies Benevolent Society and The Century Club. She was a devout member of St Michael's Church. The Reverend Alfred T.K. Zadig, Jr. once referred to Jan as one of his "Teutonic Prayer Warriors."

Jan was an extraordinarily kind and genuinely nice person. She loved her God, her nation, her family, and her fellow man, modeling exemplary grace in all her doings. She was known for always being dressed beautifully and unfailingly kind to all.

The years spent between the death of Lucius and her own were as an active member of the Bishop Gadsden community, which she considered one of her many blessings.

Jan is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Beaumont (Tim); granddaughter, Moffett Beaumont; her son, L. Courtenay Beebe (Lindsay); grandsons: Riddick Beebe (Callie), L. Courtenay Beebe, Jr. (Romney); great-grandson, Luke; and nieces: Sarah Richards (Ted), Martha Richards, Elizabeth Norris (Jim), Leslie Schomaker (Warren) and Nancy Nygreen (Ted).
