Janice Mims Flynn, 53, wife of David Louis Flynn, Sr. passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, December 29, 2012 after a 9 1/2 year battle with breast cancer. Her funeral service will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church, 57 Pitt Street, Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Tuesday between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.
She was born in Orangeburg, SC on May 17, 1959, a daughter of Russell W. and Mary C. Mims. Janice moved to Charleston at 5 months of age and began attending Bethel United Methodist in which she actively participated all of her life. Janice taught Sunday school to both children and adults for 25 years and was member of the Chancel Guild. Janice graduated from Fort Johnson High School and married David Flynn in Bethel United Methodist Church July 9, 1977. She worked for many years at CandS Bank and retired as Senior Vice President at the Bank of South Carolina.
Janice is survived by her husband of 35 years; parents, Russell and Mary Mims; two sons, David Flynn, Jr. and his wife Celena, Travis Flynn and his wife Heather and grandchildren Savannah and Lawrence Flynn, all of Charleston. Janice is also survived by a sister, Diane Saylors and her husband Greg of Charleston, and a brother, Russell Mims, Jr. and his wife Joan of Watkinsville, GA; as well as her beloved dog, Cody.
Janice was led by God in her courageous fight against cancer. Accompanying on her journey were her family and friends as well as Dr. James Orcutt and Dr. Gene Saylors, her nephew, of Charleston Hematology Oncology Associates.
