Janet was born June 26, 1931 in Charleston, SC, daughter of the late Harry Russell Huxford and the late Florrie Florence Jones Huxford. As a native Charlestonian she graduated from Murray Vocational School. She loved roller skating and met her husband, Carlton, in the old Folly Beach skating rink. Their life together focused on raising four children and working to create C and J Enterprises.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She held many positions and served faithfully. During this time she developed her passion for family history. Janet was instrumental in building the family history library that resides in the church today here in the Charleston area.
She taught family history extensively and was asked to be a guest speaker at many genealogy conferences. Her specialty in research was Horry County where she published an 1850 Census for Horry County. Janet was a member of the South Carolina Historical Society and the Charleston Chapter and Pee Dee Chapter of the South Carolina Genealogical Society to name a few. She loved Charleston's history and was known as a great historian; often, leading tours of important Historical landmarks to many of the visiting dignitaries of her church.

Those left to cherish her memories are two sons: Mark D. Woodard (Vickie) of Glendale, AZ and Raymond J. Woodard of Charleston, SC; sister Florence Kurtz (Jack) of Charleston, SC; six grandchildren: Lara Yerges, Karl Woodard (Kasey), Janette Yerges, Kristin Fellows (John), Kari Hardy (Garrett) and Kimberly Mullenaux (HL); and nine great grandchildren.
