Janet Mavis Meaburn, 93, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of the late George Malcolm Alfred Colin Meaburn, entered into eternal rest Sunday, December 21, 2025. Her Graveside Service will be held privately in The Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul Chuchyard. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr Inc. West Ashley Chapel.

Janet was born May 5, 1932 in Rotherham, North Yorkshire, England, daughter to the late Arthur Beasley and Mary Beasley. She was a former member of The Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul and Old St. Andrew’s Parish Church. Janet is survived by her daughter, Amanda Custer (John); son, J. Marc Meaburn (Andrea); and two granddaughters: Mallory Sorenson and Isabelle Custer.

Janet became a student at the Leeds General Infirmary at age 18 to study nursing where she subsequently earned her SRN. A chance encounter led to meeting Malcolm on Valentine’s Day 1954 while he was a student at Leeds University. They were married the following year and were wed for 67 years. Janet later discovered a love for teaching and did so for 26 years. After retiring, she and Malcolm traveled the world and were particularly fond of cruising. Always exhibiting an interest in continued learning, Janet became an active member of The College of Charleston’s Center for Creative Retirement. She enjoyed reading, sewing and watching her favorite BBC television shows. Janet loved time spent with her family and was especially proud of her granddaughters and their accomplishments.

The family would like to express appreciation for the care provided to Janet by the staff at The Palmettos and Family Hospice. We are especially grateful to Jessica and Lynn who provided such compassionate nursing. Your presence and support will be fondly remembered.

All things bright and beautiful.

All creatures great and small.

All things wise and wonderful.

The Lord God made them all.
