Janet was born on March 29, 1957 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the surprise child in a family of four, evenly-spaced children ages 11 through 17. She had to be precocious to even compete, and she really did a good job competing. As a family, we realized that God had given us a very precious gift in this beautiful new child. Our maternal grandmother had just passed away in February, and Janet was a wonderful gift to our family.

Our father, Carl, accepted a new position with US Borax company in Los Angeles in 1959. Janet moved with her family to Woodland Hills, California. She graduated from Thousand Oaks high school and then from California State University Northridge, where she majored in history and then taught middle school for one year in Reseda, California. Janet then got a position with IBM and enjoyed her work.

In early 1978 Janet's father passed away and Janet and her mom were by themselves. Janet and her mother made a bold move to Connecticut to start a new life in a new place where Janet made a transfer to the IBM headquarters in New York. Janet dedicated herself to becoming her mother's caretaker and companion until her mother's death in 1995.

Janet and her mother moved back to California as Janet was able to make a transfer through IBM. In November 1995 the loss of her mother was a great blow. She then moved into the home of her brother and his family. After a time of healing, she got a job at HNC. Eventually, HNC, a company specializing in intellectual property, paid her way to go to law school at University of San Diego. In the year of her graduation from USD Law School, Janet's article, "The Purloined Personality: Consumer Profiling in Financial Services" for the San Diego Law Review was awarded best article authored by a student among all law review and journal publications in the year.

Janet had a very successful career with several corporate law firms, eventually becoming a partner before retiring to Charleston in 2022. Janet worked very closely with several colleagues, one of whom shared, "I wrote a post on Linkedin about Janet and in less than 24 hours I have had over 3200 impressions. Incredible outpouring for Janet." It is safe to say that Janet was very highly thought of by her colleagues.

Janet's amazing story of her move to Charleston is a story of a bold adventure, rooted in her confidence in God's faithfulness and in her trust in God's goodness. Janet truly loved Charleston and, in particular, l'on. She loved this place, the people, the culture, the friendliness, and the love extended to her by this town. She is deeply missed by us all.

Her Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 1, 2026 at the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm, and the service begins at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Charleston Animal Society and Samaritan's Purse.

Arrangements are entrusted to J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. A memorial message may be sent to the family on our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.
