Janet McConnell Brandt

Janet McConnell Brandt, widow of August Henry Brandt, Jr., was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 6, 2024.  She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who loved her.  Janet passed away peacefully in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina with her two daughters, Donna and Vickie, by her side. She is now resting in the arms of her precious Lord fully healed and no longer suffering after her long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.  A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Fort Johnson Baptist Church, 1473 Camp Road in Charleston, South Carolina at 11:30 AM.  Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, also in Charleston, immediately following the service.  The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the beginning of her celebration of life observance.  Arrangements by J. Janet was born in Andrews, South Carolina, daughter of Robert Dick McConnell and Leila Belle Forbes McConnell.  She was born into a large family with seven brothers and two sisters.  Janet was the baby girl in the family; and according to her brothers, she was the apple of her father’s eye.  She enjoyed many wonderful times and adventures growing up together with her siblings and then later with their wonderful spouses.  She loved her family very much, and that love extended to her many nieces and nephews.  Janet left Andrews to attend school in Charleston following high school where she met the love of her life, Henry, when he was home on leave from the Air Force during his service in the Korean War. They married just a few months later.  Theirs was a marriage of true love and devotion to one another. That marriage brought them two daughters. Janet loved being a wife and mother, and she was cherished by her family for her tireless efforts to make a loving home.  She enjoyed friendships with many close friends over the years, and she loved opening her home to her daughters’ many friends as well.  

Janet is survived by those two daughters Donna Brandt O’Neal (Larry), Vickie Brandt Avant (Tom); four grandchildren, Chris O’Neal (Tifany), Tim O’Neal (Ashley), Julie Avant Davis (Derek), and Laura Avant Devito (Matt); seven great-grandchildren, Simms and Caroline O’Neal, Harper and Porter O’Neal, Caelyn Davis, and Blakely and Walker Devito.
