Jane Pierson Martin

Jane Pierson Martin, 85, widow of Dr. James Blair Martin, M.D. of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2011.  The relatives and friends of Jane P. Martin are invited to attend her graveside funeral service on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, in Old St. Andrews Parish Churchyard at 11:00 a.m.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at 637 Pitt Street from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.  Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Mrs. Martin was born July 31, 1925 in Macon, GA, daughter of the late John Story Pierson and Willie Hightower Pierson.  She was a graduate of MUSC College of Nursing and worked as an RN at Roper Hospital for many years.  She and Dr. Martin were married for 52 years upon his passing.  Mrs. Martin was a member of First Scots Presbyterian Church and the Garden Club of Charleston. She is survived by her son, John Newton Martin of Sumter, SC; two daughters, Blair Martin Johnson and Helen Martin Elliott and her husband, James H. Elliott, Jr. all of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two grandsons and two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Story Pierson, Jr. and her son in law, Robert C. Johnson, Jr. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in her memory to the East Cooper Community Outreach, 1145 Six Mile Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466.
