Jane Nidiffer Kelley

April 28, 1938 — May 29, 2021

Jane Nidiffer Kelley, 83, of Mount Pleasant, SC, wife of the late Laurence Ross Kelley, Sr. passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021.

Jane was born April 28, 1938 in Bristol, Tennessee, daughter of the late Hunter and Marietta Nidiffer. She graduated from Tennessee High School, and married her high school sweetheart, Larry in 1954. Together they raised three children, welcomed seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Her labor of love was taking care of others as she served on school and church committees, volunteered at the local hospital, served as president of the garden club and cared for both her mother and mother-in-law. She was always present at football games, wrestling matches, band concerts, swim meets, dance recitals and awards programs. A talented seamstress, she delighted in making dresses, flannel nightgowns and night caps for her daughters and granddaughters and even bravely volunteered to make multiple cheerleading outfits. She and her husband provided numerous opportunities for their children, celebrated their marriages, attended grandchildren's christenings, and proudly attended high school and college graduations. She was born and grew up amongst the beautiful mountains of Tennessee, lived in Radford, VA and Salisbury, NC. She and Larry lived in the lovely small town of Johnsonville, SC where she was an active member of the Johnsonville United Methodist Women. Their retirement years were spent between Johnsonville and Georgetown, SC. She resided in Mount Pleasant with her daughter Kathy's family for the last several years.

Although her family kept her very busy, she found time to enjoy the fellowship of many wonderful friends while playing, and often times winning at bridge. While she would have never admitted to enjoying cooking, she made the best pound cakes, fudge, and cranberry salad. She often proclaimed that her favorite meal of the day was breakfast, and she thoroughly enjoyed the culinary talents of her devoted caregivers. Jane found great pleasure in bargain hunting and was not shy about asking for her senior discount. She was so unselfish, rarely buying things for herself, preferring to send cards with bills tucked inside to her beloved grandchildren. She surrounded herself with dozens of photos of her grandchildren, and rearranged them when they came to visit, giving prominence to those who were present at the time. Spending time with her family and chatting on the phone was what she looked forward to more than anything.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Sullivan of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Karen (Douglas) Mitchell of Norfolk, VA, her son Ross Kelley of Suwanee, GA, and her brother Eddie (Glenna) Nidiffer of Bluff City, TN. "Nana" was adored by grandchildren Lauren Ross, Caitlin Tintle, Matthew Kelley, Rachel Kelley, Rebecca Taylor, John Ross Sullivan, Thomas Sullivan, Shannon Stoneburg, Stephen Mitchell, and Andrew Mitchell; great-children Justin, Isabel, Ava Jane, Luke, Kelley Ann, MariJane, Maddie, Maggie, Michael, Milo, Apollo, and Remi. Besides her husband of 55 years, she was preceded in death by her daughter-n-law Lisa Kelley and son-in-law Marc Sullivan.

The family extends deep gratitude to her caregivers Carol W., Carol D., Calais, Dominique, and Lisa.

Her funeral service will be held Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 11:00 am, in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, followed by a reception.
