James Wilbert Jones

James Wilbert Jones, 97, of Palm Coast, Florida, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 2, 2024. His funeral service will be held at the graveside on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 in Riverview Memorial Park, 3715 Azalea Drive at 1:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
 
James was born November 14, 1926 in Williamstown, New Jersey, son of the late Elwin Ace Jones and Bertha Anne Harris Jones. James enlisted and served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. James met his wife Hulda while he was in the U.S. Navy stationed at Charleston Naval Base and she was working as Secretary to the Charleston Naval Shipyard Commander. James was a volunteer firefighter and rescuer with the St. Andrews Fire Department for many years and was selected as Most Outstanding Firefighter in 1964 and 1965. He retired as a Work Leader at Charleston Air Force Base, receiving the 447 FMS Air Force Meritorious Service Award in 1986.
 
James was a Life Member and Past Master of Mariner Lodge #2 of SC. He was also a Past Grand Pursuivant of the Grand Lodge of SC. He was a Life Member of the Charleston York Rite Body. James supported many nonprofit organizations, including Native American Youth groups, Columbia Zoo, Public Broadcasting Service, Charleston Animal Society, and James Island Pet Helpers.
 
James was preceded in death by his late wife of 74 years, Hulda Williams Jones; and his brother, Howard Jones. He is survived by his daughters, Carol McKinney (Bill), Terrye Nettles (Jerry), and Joyce Seto (Jan); five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
