James Healy Whitney

April 13, 1945 — March 30, 2018

James H. Whitney, 72, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Krista Leimbach Whitney, entered into eternal rest Friday, March 30, 2018. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. ARRANGEMENTS BY J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL

James was born April 13, 1945 in Batavia, New York, son of the late L.C. "Whit" Whitney and Esther Healy Whitney. He was graduated from Hillsdale College in 1967 and received his MBA from the University of Michigan in 1969. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. At the time of his death, James was the President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board of CarePoint in Charleston.

In addition to his wife Krista of Charleston, survivors include his step mother Joan Whitney of Fair Play, SC; children James Wilday (Gaby) of Ridgewood, NJ; LeeAnne Ricker (Charles) of Marblehead, MA; Laurel Whitney of East Lyme, CT; Katharine Holdgate, and William Holdgate Jr. both of Charleston, SC; son-in-law Donald Rand; brother William "Bill" Whitney of Pinehurst, NC; sister Carol Whitney of Brant Lake, NY; and eight grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister Jan Whitney.

Jim's happiest times in life were moments spent with his family and dear friends and neighbors. Whenever the opportunity presented itself, he was on his boat enjoying his love of being on the water. Throughout his youth Jim was on various sports teams, making his way into the minor leagues in baseball. He was a fan of many sports and teams, particularly the Michigan Wolverines.
