J. Fred Watts, 75, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of 50 years to Marlene Siegmann Watts, entered into eternal rest Monday, September 14, 2015. His funeral service will be held Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Lutheran Church of The Redeemer, 714 Riverdale Drive at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 16, 2015 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Fred was born December 27, 1939 in Taylorsville, North Carolina, son of the late Claude R. Watts and Marie Anders Watts. He was a Professor of Physics at the College of Charleston for 37 years and an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. Fred was a decorated Vietnam veteran and an avid runner; he could be seen jogging all over Charleston for more than 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene Watts of Charleston, SC, two sons, Christopher Watts of Canton, NY, and Jonathan Watts of Charleston, SC; brother, Claude R. Watts, Jr. of Outer Banks, NC; two sisters, Margaret Hunt of Newport News, VA, and Patricia Watts of Winter Haven, FL; one grandchild, Lucas Martin Watts.
