James Claude Vaughan

August 18, 1923 — November 28, 2015

James Claude Vaughan, 92, of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Margaret Brooks Vaughan entered into eternal rest Saturday, November 28, 2015. His Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 2, 2015 in Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1157 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard at 2:00 p.m. Entombment services will be private. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 1, 2015 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

James was born August 18, 1923 in Greenville, South Carolina, son of the late A. J. Vaughan and Sue Hester Vaughan. He attended Greenville High School before entering the Army during WWll, where he served in the Signal Corps in the Pacific. After the war, he attended the University of South Carolina, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering. He then went to work for Southern Bell, where he worked for over thirty years before retiring from management. James was also a long time member of the Charleston Exchange Club, serving in many positions with the Coastal Carolina Fair including, Fair president in 1998-1999. He was also president of the Charleston Exchange Club from 1989-1990 and Man of the Year in 1985-1986 and 1991-1992. He was an avid golfer, playing as much as possible until his health declined. He also enjoyed woodworking, building numerous pieces of furniture for his home and children.

He is survived by his four sons, James Vaughan, Jr., John W. Vaughan, Steve G. Vaughan, and Mike B. Vaughan; granddaughter, Mikayla B. Vaughan, nieces and nephews.
