James Wesley Temple, Jr., 71, passed away Monday, December 26, 2016, at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC. He was born May 20, 1945 in Rocky Mount, NC. He was the son of James W. Temple, Sr., and Thelma Parham Temple of Columbia. He was one of 5 children.
Jim married Janet "Jan" Zolko July 11, 1979 and celebrated life & love together for 36 ½ years. He had 3 children, cared for aging parents, and applied his Christian faith in everyday living. He loved and cherished his family & friends and always looked for the good in others. He led by example, keeping his loved ones close at heart and connected.
Jim, a self-motivated person, was a successful entrepreneur at the corporate level at Pizza Hut, which led him to create his own fast food chain. He established Coastal Lifestyles of Charleston, was a residential contractor, real estate developer and investor. In his early years, he was a barber/hair designer in Columbia.
Jim's faith and relationship with God has always been a cornerstone of his life. Service in his church includes leadership on finance and Trust Fund boards, fellowship, Sunday and Bible school teaching and being a deacon. Jim was a charter member, treasurer and one of the founders of Charleston Presbyterian Church.
Jim served on many board of directors to include Country Club Villas in Myrtle Beach for 15+ years and The Board of Visitors for Thornwell Home for Children and Headquarters Island POA. Activities and interests included boating, travel, reading, cars, gardens, and state/national parks.
He is survived by: one son, Tracey "Blaine" Temple of Alaska; daughter-in-law, Vicky Temple Grubic; son-in-law, Bob Nelson; grandchildren: Ashley, Kaylin, Tyler and Kayce Nelson; Samantha, James, Brandon, Faolan, and Kieran Temple; step granddaughter Sydney Grubic; two great grandchildren, Peighton and Bowden; two brothers, Andrew "Andy" Temple (Patti) and Randy Temple all of Columbia, SC; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son, Todd Baxter Temple, a daughter, Paula Khristine Nelson, a sister, Patricia Gail Lilly and a brother, Frank Temple.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 30, 2016 from 4 - 7 p.m. at J. Henry Stuhr Chapel, 232 Calhoun St. in Charleston, SC 29401. The funeral service will be Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Charleston Presbyterian Church, 1405 Miles Drive, Charleston, SC 29407.
