James J. Sturcken, 88, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 23, 2025. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 405 King Street. Interment will follow at Bethany Cemetery. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 27, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Roost, 825 Savannah Highway, Charleston. Guests are encouraged to wear Clemson attire or colors in honor of James’s spirited support for his team.
Born on July 23, 1936, in Charleston, James was the son of Henry Tracy Sturcken and Virginia Bellinger Sturcken. He was a graduate of Bishop England High School and a proud U.S. Army veteran. James dedicated over 30 years of service to the Charleston Naval Shipyard.
He is survived by his daughter, Laura S. Dietrick (Scott L. Dietrick) of Mechanicsville, VA; his son, Paul J. Sturcken of Taylors, SC; and four grandchildren: Emily D. Baird, John T. Dietrick, H. Brooks Sturcken, and W. Trace Sturcken. He is also survived by his sister, Teresa S. Riley of Columbia, SC. James was predeceased by his wife Lois H. Sturcken, brothers, H. Tracy Sturcken and Francis W. Sturcken, and his sister, Virginia S. Bachem.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Service Ministry at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 405 King Street, Charleston, SC 29403.
