James Lloyd Strobel, 81, of Folly Beach, South Carolina, husband of Paula Mitchum Strobel, entered into eternal rest Monday, January 3, 2022. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Summerville Presbyterian Church, 407 S. Laurel Street at 1:00 p.m. Entombment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday at Summerville Presbyterian Church one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Jim was born May 3, 1940, in Summerville, South Carolina, son of the late John Lloyd Strobel and Dorothy Clayton Strobel. After 33 years, Jim retired from the Department of Defense - SPAWAR as the Special Assets Electronic Sensor Engineering Department Head. Not one to let retirement stick, he continued in his field offering government support for over 20 more years.
In addition to his dedication to his professional career, Jim was an active member of his church families as well as charitable organizations. As an Elder of Summerville Presbyterian Church, he served on several committees, and always looked forward to the annual Barbecue and Spring Picnic because they combined his love for cooking and socializing. He committed years to the Summerville Evening Lions Club and was proud to be a Past District Governor. Of all of his positions, his most cherished were those of father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Paula M. Strobel; sons, Daniel L. Strobel, James A. Strobel, Peter N. Strobel, John A. Strobel; daughter, Dorothy S. Bell, and seven grandchildren.
