James Matthew Smyly, Sr., 72, of Hollywood, South Carolina, husband of Glenda Durden Smyly entered into eternal rest Sunday, June 15, 2014. The family will receive friends Friday June 20, 2014 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday June 21, 2014, in Adams Run Baptist Church 8113 Hwy 162, Adams Run SC at 11 am. A graveside service will follow in The Smyly Family Cemetery, Ruffin, SC at 2 pm.
James was born December 19, 1941 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Cuthbert Monroe Smyly and Dorothy Songer Smyly. James was a an Army Veteran of Vietnam and was employed with Rhodia Chemical for over 40 years as an Analytical Chemist. He was an active member and Deacon of Adams Run Baptist Church, as well as an avid fisherman, outdoorsman and animal lover.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Glenda Durden Smyly of Hollywood, SC; daughter, Sandra Elizabeth Smyly of Hollywood, SC; son, James Smyly, Jr.( Saila Milja-Smyly) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three sisters, Nina Spaudling, Gail Riggs (Bill) all of North Charleston, SC, Katherine Bowman of Oregon and many loving nieces and nephews.
