James "Ronnie" Matthews of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on October 14, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on June 12, 1948, in Lake City to the late William Ashby Matthews and Grace Maude Matthews, Ronnie spent the majority of his life in his hometown of Lake City and attended Matthews Tabernacle Church where his family enjoyed a long legacy of faith and worship.

Ronnie was always talking, smiling, and encouraging others around him to do the same with his laughter and positive spirit. He enjoyed long walks, strumming his guitar, and was fondly called “The Boss” by his friends and family. He relocated to Mt. Pleasant in the past several years to be near his brother, David.

He is survived by his brother David Matthews (Tina) of Daniel Island, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Donnie.

A small private family burial will take place at Matthews Cemetery in Lake City at a later date.
